Album Review: Fuzz Attack – Unhinged

3/5

Surface-level rock “historians” who first listen to Fuzz Attack could deem the Bay Area’s trashy punk sound is for another era. Now, by “another era,” we’re talking about the turn of the millennium when the commercialization around raw garage rock n’ roll was swelling from the niche underbelly into the mainstream. Far from the truth, the Bay has a long history of subversive garage punk n’roll, and Fuzz Attack adds to the area’s legacy. Their latest EP, Unhinged, carries visceral graphics influenced by Haze XXL and high energy with a sound suitable for a second installment of the Here’s Fifty Bucks compilation.

Unhinged follows up their pandemic era Higher Than Heaven Lower Than Hell EP, and the band don’t delve far from prior songwriting patterns. Six tracks of down-to-the-basics, mongoloid brain punk rock that dwellers of the bars of Benders and Thee Stork Club would dig and with a production value that’s cheap and easy, the antithesis of affordable housing on either side of the Bay Bridge. At the time of this writing, it’s surprising that Felipe from Junkie Business hasn’t added this release to his channel yet!

Unhinged is now streaming on all digital platforms and available through Fuzz Attack’s Bandcamp.
