On their latest record, the band lean into positivity as a way to navigate the horrors of their world in their classic Australian, in-your-face punk fashion.
“The title is a lyric from the song ‘Doing in Me Head’ where it says, ‘diving headfirst into cartoon darkness,’” vocalist Amy Taylor says. “That’s, to me saying, the future seems dark; it’s really unknown, but it’s comical like a cartoon … This album, it’s a super optimistic, super positive album. But at a time where politically and environmentally, and just in general, there’s a lot of horrible things going on in the world. Even though this album is positive, and it’s not directly talking about politics and the climate crisis or the genocide or anything like that, it’s trying to navigate an environment that’s super harsh and showing how to combat that in a fun way without trying to encourage people to look away.”
Get the band’s new album, Cartoon Darkness, out October 25.
