Known for their bleak, nihilistic outlook and aggressive music, their new album will be the perfect soundtrack to our current dystopian nightmare. But despite their reputation for being dark and heavy, Chat Pile vocalist Raygun Busch says that taking a stand for issues is important to the band. “I’m not gonna say we can save the world or anything, but, I mean, we’re here; we’ve got time to spend. Speak out against stuff. A lot of our album is anti-war, and I’m trying to use my opportunity as a singer of a band that people are listening to to talk about real things that are happening right now.”
In addition to using their platform for good, as cynical as they might be, getting to make anything close to a living from music is not a luxury that is lost on Chat Pile.
“To some degree because it’s my livelihood now, but at the same time, I’m about to turn 40 and I’ve worked a lot of terrible jobs; I feel extremely blessed to be able to do this,” he says regarding the bands rise to cult icons since their start in 2019. “As soon as you stop caring about making it a career is when the best stuff happens.”
