Album Review: Polar – Five Arrows

5/5

Since 2009, U.K. metalcore band Polar have crushed it with their tenacious, nonstop driving force. Now, get ready for their release of their latest album Five Arrows on November 22 via Arising Empire.

In 2023, lineup changes left their founding member vocalist Adam Woodford to bring the band back, mending and reforming them moving forward to doing what they love, music. Polar have been reborn with fortitude and determination. Adam Woodford rebuilt Polar, bringing on board Stefan Whiting (bass), Bruno Consani (guitar), Simon Richardson (guitar), and Max Flohr (drums).

A fresh start with a positive direction for these lads is exactly what they needed. The band ignited their souls and focus recent touring U.K. and Europe; then the earth-shattering show at the Resurrection Festival unleashed their unstoppable presence.

Five Arrows is Polar’s sixth studio album produced by Jack Murphy (Crystal Sound Studios), and might just be their best yet!

“We Won’t Sleep” gets brutal in the first second, and vocals punch you in your gut. Unkillable” shows how unstoppable they are. Catchy hooks and riveting guitars and bass bring the drums into this perfect brutality. “A New Mentality” is a favorite with their brutal but amazing vocals and positive direction.

“House Of Cards” is an emotional song with passion. As all their songs tell a story about struggle and life’s rollercoasters, and the storytelling grabs the listener. “Dawn Of A New Age,” another well-written song with catchy hooks, also features complex rhythms and breakdowns. A lot reminds me of Darkest Hour meets Acacia Strain. It’s quite brilliant.

“Soak It In Tragedy,” “The Hills Are Alive With The Sound Of Violence,” “Paranoia,” Need Want,” and “Closing Curtain ” will keep you enticed and addicted. “Swimming With Sharks” is riveting and aggressive, slicing into the listener. The video encapsulates the meaning behind the song, showing how life can be almost like swimming with sharks. There’s so much feeling from this song that you’ll feel like you are there with them. All 12 tracks are astounding with their precise musicianship and emotion, and every listener will enjoy it and feel revitalized.
