Show Review: Taking Back Sunday and Citizen at House of Blues in Orlando, FL

In the second leg of a mammoth tour across North America, Taking Back Sunday are finally approaching the home stretch. Between parted rain clouds in Orlando, Florida, the band sold out the House of Blues on August 1 accompanied by Citizen.

It’s hard to remember a time when Taking Back Sunday hasn’t been on the road. In all of the incarnations of its lineups and through seven albums, they’ve consistently found their way back to Florida in a timely manner. Now in the era of their 2023 album, 152, the band are sporting matching rust-colored suits and celebrating another trip around the world with the adoring fans who have grown up alongside them.

Citizen opened the show with an atmospheric flair, rousing a cluster of fans in the center of the already crowded pit. In the spirit of their tour-mates, the band is also supporting a 2023 album, Calling The Dogs, and toasting to a lasting legacy of over a decade.

The venue couldn’t have been more tightly packed by the time Taking Back Sunday played the first notes of their opener, “S’Old.” Illuminated by the glow of their signature numbers, the band took the audience on a 20 song journey through the past 20 years. In between classics like “Timberwolves at New Jersey” and “My Blue Heaven,” new tracks had their chance to shine in the setlist. Their fans sang as loud as ever to their favorite songs, relishing every swing of the mic.

Though their current run is coming to an end, Taking Back Sunday is surely already looking forward to their next adventure as a band. Wherever their path may go, their fanbase will always be along for the ride.
