Show Review: Chris Farren and Diners at Will’s Pub in Orlando, FL

The Doom Singer himself, Chris Farren, returned to his home state of Florida on September 15 to play a gig at Will’s Pub for the luckiest people in Orlando.

Providing support on this leg of the tour is the delightful Diners, the artistic child of Blue Broderick. She has been releasing a steady stream of music under the moniker for over a decade and is currently celebrating the release of her newest album, Domino. Joined onstage by a talented group of friends for an utterly charming set, Diners warmed the crowd right up with catchy tunes and friendly stage banter.

After a lap around the venue to hype up the crowd, Chris Farren took the stage to the audience’s thunderous applause. This tour cycle is in celebration of Farren’s acclaimed latest record, Doom Singer. Though he has been dazzling audiences as a solo act since 2014, this album introduced a new addition to the Farren multiverse: drummer Frankie Impastato, also of the band Macseal. Her presence adds an innovative fullness to Farren’s sound, along with a partner to his on-stage foolery.

You can never be quite sure what tricks Farren has up his sleeve for a gig. Will his hand-crafted visual projections include an entire compilation of “boat fails” he found on YouTube? Will there be hidden references to the 2022 Cate Blanchett film, Tár? Will he perform a beautiful yet emotionally devastating song sung from the perspective of a statue while entangling the crowd with his microphone cord as he speed walks around the venue? Will his arch nemesis, The Ghoul, try to sabotage the entire thing? You’ll just have to show up and find out.

The one thing you can be certain of is the overarching feeling of joy that always accompanies a Chris Farren set.

The Doom Singer is ripping gigs across the continental United States well into October, so don’t miss out on your chance to see him play “another perfect set.”
