News: Cynic’s Paul Masvidal Lines Up West Coast Tour Dates with Moonbladder

Cynic’s Paul Masvidal will hit the West Coast January 21, 23, and 24 bringing with him the mighty Moonbladder. If you’re not familiar with Moonbladder, they’re a harsh, industrial, soundscape beast by Agalloch’s Jason William Walton.

Masvidal states on his Facebook page:

“Three exclusive, intimate solo shows across Northern California and the Pacific Northwest. This January, Jason Walton (MoonBladder, Agalloch) and I are teaming up to share an evening of sound and connection. Jason’s experimental soundscapes and my acoustic meditations merge two distinct worlds into a living, breathing organism.

“• San Francisco – Jan 21 @ Above DNA
• Seattle – Jan 23 @ Gallery 1412
• Portland – Jan 24 @ Azoth

“Ticket links and details coming soon. We look forward to sharing these moments with you.”

Masvidal wrote and performed a trilogy of records called Mythical Human Vessel released via his label Masvidalien Records. Many of the songs presented on Mythical Human Vessel had been kicking around in Masvidal’s mind for well over a decade. He states:

“These little beings tapped me on the shoulder one day, asking to be completed, and from that point forward, I listened … MHV expresses another dimension to me entirely. At first, I was reluctant to let others hear these songs ’cause it’s me at my most vulnerable, raw and naked, and frankly, now it’s the part of me I feel is most important to share.”

The songs draw influence from John Lennon, Brian Eno, and Elliott Smith from visual artists Mark Rothko, Cai Guo-Qiang, and Hilma af Klimt. Through its incorporation of Isochronic tones, Mythical Human Vessel becomes something bigger than just music. Masvidal comments:

“An inherently relaxing listening experience, and adding the tones multiplied the benefits. More serotonin for all!

“Isochronics have worked on multiple levels for me. There will always be naysayers who go to the pseudo-science argument, but I believe humans are just at the tip of the iceberg with psychoacoustic sciences.”

Each song uses “Isochronic Tones” designed by Dr. Stephane Pigeon. The tones are a groundbreaking type of sound therapy to increase serotonin, alleviate depression and stress, improve focus, and aid in restful sleep. “Mythical Human Vessel” is intended as “an inherently relaxing listening experience, and adding the tones multiplied the benefits,” Masvidal says.
