Swedish industrial post-punk project The Below is back once again, following up their critically-acclaimed EP Immutable Decay from earlier this year with a new EP called Behavior in Public Places which comes out today. Formed by Bo Magnusson, formerly of Dr. Evil and the Boys From Below, Magnusson took off some time after Dr. Evil disbanded in 1992 and returned with The Below in 2015. We had the pleasure of debuting one of the singles off of Immutable Decay back in June, the grinding, mechanical, and haunting “90 Seconds to Midnight.”
Today, we’re spotlighting the video for the opening track off of Behavior in Public Places called “Tabla Motors,” which features a guest appearance from Jesper Hanning and a video by frequent Killing Joke collaborator Mike Coles. With a string section contrasting against the dark and ominous vocals, the song slowly becomes more menacing and discordant, making for a jarring and frightening track that stirs up a powerful emotional response. With a deeply symbolic video full of disturbing images of darkness and death, it’s a perfect compliment to the industrial power of the song.
“Killing Joke is one of the most influential bands ever, and I have always loved their graphic profile,” explain the band. “To be able to work with Mike Coles, who has done a lot of their artwork and videos, is a true honour.”
