Berlin music collective The Ocean teams up with famed Norwegian singer and Årabrot member Karin Park for an exceptional new song and one-of-a-kind music video for “Unconformities,” a new song out via Pelagic Records, and the video is debuting today.
With a surreal video that follows Park as a mother figure in a surreal world caught between dreamscape and reality as she follows her own daughter into the darkness, this complex song melds perfectly with writer and directors Corentin Schieb and Mathias Averty’s intense music video that plays more like a short film than a traditional music video. The song moves through a number of complex movements, going from proggy rock with delicate vocals to screaming hardcore and back again, all tying together into something that somehow melds together into a whole.
“Karin is simply a class and a force of her own,” says The Ocean’s Robin Staps. “She has a unique, beautiful and dramatic voice and she’s an incredibly inspiring musician and person. After releasing three of her albums on Pelagic and watching her stunning performance at Roadburn as well as with Årabrot many times, I became such a fan that I couldn’t help but ask her to guest on our album. The outcome is probably the most accessible track of the album, but also one of the heaviest too.”
