French experimental artist Sophia Djebel Rose returns with a new album called Sécheresse due out on February 17. Today she’s debuting the first single off her new album, “Blanche Biche,” a murder ballad adapted from the French-speaking medieval repertoire.
It tells the story of a woman who transforms into a white doe at night, only to be murdered by her own brother while he’s hunting. Adapted by Rose into a eco-feminist ballad, the track becomes haunting and mesmerizing with elements of Middle Eastern music. The experimental video swirls in impressionistic images of nature and modernity, making for a perfect compliment to this dreamlike song. Check out the video below.
