Video Spotlight: Alpha Rabbit – ‘Temperatures’

Founded in 2016 in central New Jersey by the dynamic trio of Jake Foy, Joe “Dim” Wolstenholme, and Jaime Parker, Alpha Rabbit are a unique beast where all three members regularly swap instruments between bass, drums, guitar, and keyboards. Unsurprisingly from such an unusual set up, the band refuse to stick to one genre, instead exploring a number of genres in what they call “embracing their collective indecision.” This is truly a band like no other.

Today, we’re spotlighting the video for their song “Temperatures,” which is off their album Let It Grow that was released back in February of 2024 on Mint 400 Records. With the jingle bells in the introduction, the song could easily be mistaken for a holiday tune, but the only connection this wistful piano-based power pop ballad has to the holidays is the feeling of loneliness and isolation that comes in the colder months. As the song moves towards its powerful crescendo, the space-themed video— although admittedly an unexpected choice for the subject matter —perfectly captures the raw emotion of yearning in the ballad’s most explosive moments. It’s supremely weird in the best way possible, and the weirdness never manages to detract from the beauty in the song’s emotional core.

“’Temperatures’ was a long time coming. When we first got together as a band in 2016, I had fragments of it written,” explains Jaime Parker, who plays bass and sings lead vocals on this track. “We needed to gel as a band before we were able to pull the composition of this song off.” Jake Foy, who plays drums and piano on the track, adds, “As our various writing styles started to come together, the song started to take the shape of the Ronettes in outer space.”

“I’ve always been fascinated by space. We were thrilled when Tony and Sarah from DIWhy? shared their idea for this video. It was so much fun to film,” says Jaime.
